S.M.E.S. - Goregasmic Tales From Technophobia

Pusvomit Webzine by Lee Davis (USA)
If I got 3 hours alone in the morgue with all the dead girls in it I think that might describe the kind of fun that SMES is! Hell SMES could be the soundtrack to that! Black Hole Productions kicks off it's first release in the form of one of my most beloved of sickening cyber gore experimental bands of all! Yeah there aren't too many, ASTRUM, GYNOPHAGIA, INTESTINAL SLAUGHTER, LIBIDO AIRBAG, MICROPHALLUS, they all rock my world! Erwin is might master of the industrial cyber-electonic journey into the horrors of the macabre fueled by hemp and a love for morbidity in general. No actual instruments, crazy dance-techno/blasts drum programs and some totally wicked cyber sounds peeped up with some totally eerie and bizarre sounds inserted for good measure.
Vocals are pure distorted gurgles and growls rounding out the gory element along with the sick cyber sounds. It's so far out, many may not catch it right away but give SMES some time if you haven't checked it out yet and trust me it will grow on you almost immediately! This is what truly morbid industrial was meant to be and if things were normal, and humanity didn't suck ass, people would be cranking SMES in their car instead of MARYLIN MANSON! The hordes of trendy faggots that infest the streets may not know this but you and I both do, and Fernando of BHP/Magazine does! Props for this incredible release! And he didn't just put out a CD-R like that, the packaging is a great presentation (you've probably read elsewhere how Fernando is art direct for many Lofty Storm releases among many other projects and how good they are!). Cover art is totally otherworldly horror metaphysical entities madness terror booga booga! Like the musical madness, psychadelic and horrific! Look at the back! It's some kind of chrome grey/glitter media with something truly bizarre, some kind inhuman mutant, alien fishfaced freak, imagine exploring some cavern and finding a race of them! Fucking wacked and so cool, the underground remains true to it's untrendy and individual roots but marches on into more freaked and strange territory!
The genre of "Cyber Gore" makes me think of horror gore grind evolved into a sci fi/horror sound, it's too damn cool to pass up! All just makes me want to learn more about Erwin's twisted realms inside his head!

Braindead Webzine by Pierre (France)
It's a huge one-man Cybergrind act we have here. The premise is brutal computery Goregrind, with bloody distorting vocal effects, fast cyberblasts and violent, weird computer-generated bass/guitar sounds. Maestro Erwin always alternates catchy ruthless grind parts and wacky colorful fun parts; so, you'll need a good sense of humor to fully appreciate it. I find it extremely fun myself, and the grind parts are just kick-ass, so the mix works just fine. Compositions often stretch to 3 or 4 minutes and it stays quite catchy all the way. That's real great work, considering the pretty long total running time. If you're into Libido Airbag and stuff, you'll definitely wanna check S.M.E.S. out. The cover is simple, cdr deal, but Fernando (Black Hole mag, cover designer on most Lofty Storm cds...) did a great job as usual, especially for the back-cover, methinks it looks smashing! That's all I can say bout this one right now.. But it's officially Recommended stuff.

Carnificina Grindcore Webzine by Marcelo (Brazil)
Erwin além do S.M.E.S. é o mais novo vocalista do LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY.

Psychosis Death Zine by Fernando R. (Brazil)

Triturado Webzine by Fabricio Reolon Terribile (Brasil)

The Dungeon by Dave Wolff (USA)
You may be acquainted with S.M.E.S. from the split CD's they and F---k the Facts have released over the past couple of years. After joining forces with Brazilian label Black Hole Productions and recording his first full-length, splatter enthusiast Erwin may have stumbled upon the beginnings of what may in later years develop into "cybergrind." On Goregasmic Tales From Technophobia the guitar and bass parts convey the impression they're handled by a far-reaching arrangement of piano, keyboards and synthesizers. It's somewhat bizarre to hear death-grind hybridized with techno music, and at this stage it
certainly remains to be seen how widely accepted this style will prove to be, or if independent labels will catch on to it in the underground. On the other hand things sould disturbing and extreme in the right places during the moments the drum programming takes off at full speed and there is enough of a sense of humor generally existent as Erwin parodies disco music in a resemblant way to what Topon has been wnting.

Vampire Magazine by Ricardo Mouwen (Holland)
Well, I didn't expected to hear some more fucked up cybergrind so soon after my review of the split cd with lymphatic phlegm. Maybe a bit more info is in order for this is the very first full-length release for S.M.E.S. Started out in 1999, S.M.E.S is a 1 man project from Erwin who also does vocals for the mighty Last Days of Humanity. After a couple of demo's and split releases (of which the one with Lymphatic Phlegm was the most recent, if I'm not mistaken) S.M.E.S now has a chance to pollute an entire silver disc with almost 57 minutes (!) worth of material. Strange stuff, since it's all done electronic and it has a strong experimental vibe. For the few people that follow the more progressive outfits in the techno/grind genre, S.M.E.S is not that upsetting or vile as Imminent Starvation, Melt Banana, Atomsmasher or a regular Release formation. Called cybergrind but not really anything to do with grindcore, although the vocals are being put through a pitchshifter/harmonizer which creates an effect often found in the gore genre. S.M.E.S shuns not the use of samples, breakbeats and even the robbery of other melodies from classical pieces. Does that make this Techno for grindheads? It's a nice listen, if you're into weird electronica. Oh, did I mention that the bass and guitartones are all electronically generated too? You can guess that, if you swear by tradition and shun expermental filth and sleaze, that it's best to avoid this one.
Most of the tracks sound pretty simple and straightforward and maybe even stripped, but you gotta admire this kind of creativity with keyboards and programs. It reminds me of the time I once tried to do something similair with FruityLoops, after an hour of hard work I got a result that was best comparable to a digital fart. This just to prove you that not
everybody can pull this off, but S.M.E.S does and therefore I urge the few upright interested to get out of the closet and order this crazy party disc (it's a cd-r, but comes with full colour inlay and proffesional artwork) from Black Hole Productions in Brazil.

DeathGrind Webzine by Demonic E (Israel)
Well it's about time that a band from Holland put out songs about fucking weed!!! I mean shit, it's fucking legal over there! And I definatly think these dudes endulge in all the fine drugs the country has to offer. This is some of the most bizzare shit I've heard in awhile. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to dance to this to grind out to it. This definately has a drum
machine, and there is some weird use of keyboards here. I don't think the guitars are actually real guitars, I think they are from a synthizier or something. This shit is like a mix between Gut style goregrind and old Nintindo video game music like Mario Brothers or something. I'm not sure how serious you are supposed to take this, but I definately get a kick out of most of it. Some of the songs are kind of stupid, but this sounds like nothing else out there. The vocals are pitch-shifted, and are totally killer, but that is the only thing that is consistant through out the whole album. My major complaint about this, is that I think the songs are too long. This isn't techno/grind type shit like Libido Airbag, this is totally all it's own. Check it out for something new sounding, or for a good laugh. Fucking weird!

The title says everything about this release. Goregasmic: the ultra deep growlings and sometimes fast grindparts. Technophobia: the techno and house parts. This is a one man project and is a mixture of grind, techno, house and industrial music. You really have to be open minded for this kind of music. It sounds very cold, hard and unpersonal. It is an attack to my brain of 56 minutes when I listen to this. Only th eguitars and the growling are related to grindcore. The drums must be done by a computer and gives the album a very cold feeling. The techno and house touches makes it complete. You hate this or you
love this. There is no way between. S.M.E.S.
